Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, recently expressed dissatisfaction with advice he received from fellow musician Davido during a dinner in the United States. Portable claimed that Davido, signed to Sony Music, dissuaded him from joining Sony and instead recommended he sign with Empire. Portable voiced suspicion, noting his aspiration to achieve a Grammy like Davido and expressing concern that the recommended label might not adequately support his Grammy ambitions.
During a live session on Instagram, Portable stated, “You are signed to Sony Music, but you’re giving me bad advice in America to get signed to Empire and collect advance. The same Grammy you’re chasing is what I’m also chasing.” He underscored his preference for authentic support and criticized individuals offering flawed advice or succumbing to hearsay. “Olamide helped me directly; Skepta gave me a verse, money, shoes, and clothes, and still linked me up with big fashion brands. That’s the kind of helper I want from God, not someone who follows hearsay,” he asserted.
