One Year Later: A Timeline of Mohbad’s Posthumous Controversies

The Nigerian community was deeply saddened by the sudden death of popular music artist Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad, on September 12, 2023, which left many in shock and mourning.

Following Mohbad’s passing, there were several significant events:

  • September 13: Mohbad was laid to rest in Ikorodu within 24 hours of his death.
  •  September 19: Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olú requested the Department of State Services to investigate Mohbad’s death, leading to the arrest of a person named Feyisayo Ogedengbe.
  • September 21: Mohbad’s body was examined again by the Lagos State Police Command, and a candlelight procession was held in his honor.
  • September 23: The police clarified that their investigation would not be influenced by media coverage, and it was revealed that Feyisayo was not a licensed nurse.
  • September 28: Sam Larry, another individual, was confirmed to be in police custody for 21 days.
  •  April 25: The autopsy and toxicology reports were completed, confirmed by the legal representative of Lagos State.
  • May 15: A legal representative disclosed that the cause of Mohbad’s death couldn’t be determined based on the toxicology test.
  •  May 31: A laboratory in Pennsylvania denied conducting a poison test on Mohbad’s body.
  • June 3: Mohbad’s father expressed disappointment over the denial from the US lab and sought justice.
  • June 26: Protesters in the US demonstrated at the US lab, seeking clarity on the test.
  • June 28: The court authorized the family to conduct a private autopsy and toxicology test.
  • July 24: The family confirmed the completion of a new test and awaited the results.
  • September 12: Fans protested outside the Lagos Coroner’s office, demanding justice.
