Some people wish my success didn’t come too quickly – Rema says on ‘Afrobeats Big 4’

After the massive success of his popular track ‘Calm Down’, Rema has consistently mentioned that he should be considered among the top leaders of Afrobeats.

In both his EP ‘Ravage’ and his recent second album ‘HEIS’, Rema confidently asserted his position alongside the “Afrobeats Big 3”, a term used for Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy.
During a recent interview on The Breakfast Club, Rema expressed that some individuals may be hesitant to recognize his status among the “Afrobeats Big 3” due to his relatively short time in the industry.
“I believe the success came too fast for some people’s liking,” Rema stated regarding his swift rise to fame, which was accelerated by the popularity of his groundbreaking song ‘Calm Down’ featuring Selena Gomez.

“When they want to pay homage and expect you to have been in the industry for 10 years, I feel like my career didn’t adhere to those standards. I was already breaking records that were 7 years old when I had only been in the industry for 3 years,” Rema elaborated.
“Out of respect for the veterans, I am one of them,” Rema responded when questioned about his position alongside Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid.
In the interview, Rema discussed his motivation behind his second album ‘HEIS’, citing his desire to challenge the existing norms.
