The BET Awards, established in 2001 to honor the accomplishments of Black artists in various entertainment domains in the United States, have expanded their focus to acknowledge Black talent on a global scale. The 2024 edition took place on June 30 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Regrettably, Nigerian representatives experienced limited success, failing to secure wins in most of their nominated categories. The exception was Tems, who received the Best Gospel/Inspirational Song award for her single “Me & U.”
Burna Boy, a nominee for Best Hip Hop and Best R&B/Pop Act, was surpassed by Kendrick Lamar and Usher, respectively. Ayra Starr, despite multiple nominations, did not win in any category, losing the Best New Artist award to Tyla, who also outshone her and Asake for the Best International Act.
Seyi Vibez, in his inaugural BET nomination for Best New International Act, was outperformed by South Africa’s Makhadzi. The complete list of award recipients is provided below:
