The most recent addition to the Google Graveyard is the discontinuation of continuous scrolling on search results, as reported by Search Engine Land. This user functionality, which emulated the infinite scrolling experience commonly found on social media feeds, was initially introduced for mobile search results in October 2021 and later extended to desktop searches in late 2022.
A spokesperson from Google informed Search Engine Land that the continuous scroll feature is being phased out from desktop search results commencing today. Furthermore, the feature will also be gradually removed from mobile search results in the forthcoming months.
For desktop users, Google will revert to the traditional pagination bar, enabling users to navigate to a specific page of search results or click on the “Next” button to access subsequent pages. On mobile devices, a “More results” button will be displayed at the conclusion of the search results, allowing users to load the subsequent page.
According to Google, this modification is intended to expedite the delivery of search results by refraining from automatically loading results that users have not explicitly requested.
