Globacom is preparing to announce Ahmad Farroukh, the former CEO of MTN Nigeria, as its new leader, marking a significant change for Nigeria’s third-largest telecommunications company. This shift comes as Globacom transitions from being led by its founder, Mike Adenuga, who has been at the helm since it started on August 29, 2003. While an official announcement is still pending, sources indicate that the company has already informed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) about this change, appointed a new board, and received the necessary regulatory approval.

Ahmad Farroukh brings a rich background in the telecom industry. He began his career in 1995 and has held various leadership positions, including leading MTN in Ghana and later becoming the CEO of MTN Nigeria from 2006 to 2010. He also served as the CEO of MTN South Africa and led Mobily, a major telecom company in Saudi Arabia, before joining Smile Communications in Nigeria. Farroukh holds an MBA and a degree in accounting, along with a Certified Public Accountant credential.

As the new CEO of Globacom, Farroukh will face some big challenges. Recent audits show that the company’s number of subscribers has significantly dropped from 41 million to just 19.1 million, resulting in a smaller share of the market. His experience in dealing with competitive telecom environments will be crucial as he guides Globacom towards future growth.

An official announcement about Farroukh’s appointment is expected soon, marking him as the first CEO from outside the company and ushering in a new era for Globacom.
